Setting Expectations = Failure in Mlm?

If I've said it once, I've said it a million times...one of the biggest reasons that people fail in M1M is because those in charge of the companies do not set expectations correctly.
One-Half of the Idea of Simplified Duplication is based on the theory that you should be shown exactly what you are going to have to do
in order to get others in your business BEFORE you actually join
In other words, your expectations are set correctly and there are few if any surprises once you join.
As I've said numerous times:
Most companies get you hyped up on the product/service and the intricacies of the compensation plan as opposed to getting down to "brass tax" and showing you what's to be expected of you in order for you to achieve success.
Let’s put this in a little bit different light:
If I say to you...
"Hey Tim - all you have to do is walk 1 mile and give me $100 and you'll make $1-Mil1ion"
You would probably say to me:
"Devon, you've got yourself a deal!"
But what if once you started walking you realized that:
25% of the journey was through an area infested with poisonous snakes
25% of the journey was in blazing heat
25% of the journey was in freezing cold ...and
25% of the journey was through an area with quicksand
It would be a little bit tougher now, wouldn't it?
My point is simply this;
If I told you everything upfront then you likely would not have agreed to the challenge.
What you were EXPECTING and the actual REALITY were 2 completely different things.
Now I'm not saying that achieving success in M1M is the equivalent of walking through poisonous snakes; but what I am saying is that because I didn't tell you (or even better yet SHOW YOU) up front the actions necessary for success, you are now more likely to get frustrated and quit.
Think about it.
Now that you've started your 1 mile journey:
You realize that you now have to buy some "snake proof" boots
You realize that you must buy and pack a fan (because its hot)
You realize that you must buy some warm winter clothes...and
You realize that you must figure out how to not sink in quicksand
The problem is that you realize these facts AFTER you've already started walking..
Let’s put this in perspective.
Now that you've joined XYZ Network Marketing Company
You realize that you must figure out how to recruit effectively
You realize that you must go talk to strangers
You realize that you must spend money, time, and effort on training
You realize that you're going to have to bug your loved ones
You realize that you must improve your selling skills
You realize that you are going to have to get rejected in order to get ahead
I could probably come up with many more but I think you get the idea.
Its not that there is anything wrong with improving your selling skills or learning how to deal with rejection...the problem is that doing those things is not what you signed up for
The following statement is for those in top positions of the Network Marketing Companies (feel free to share this with them)
Stop hyping people up and start setting expectations correctly
You're NOT helping anyone by not being real with them
And to those of you frustrated in M1M
Stop getting so emotional about products and compensation plans and start looking at the exact steps necessary to be successful
