One of the things that I get asked often is "How do I generate MLM leads without spending any money?" While there are many free lead generation tools, one of my favorites is Ebay. Why Ebay? Well, with Ebay instead of paying to generate leads, your leads are paying you! The number one reason that people fail in this industry is they run out of advertising funds before they make money. If your leads are paying you, you can build a huge downline while making money, instead of spending money. Additionally, these are actually BETTER leads than you can buy from a lead generation company because you get their current and accurate contact information.

Studies show that the person who is most likely to buy a product again are someone who has already bought a similar product. At The Internet Marketing Main Event conference, I learned that if you get proven BUYERS and not freebie seekers, then you will build a much more responsive prospect base to work from.

Now, that you understand the power of using Ebay as a prospecting tool, I want to give you some ideas as to what to sell on there. While these tips are geared toward my opportunity in the personal development industry, you can easily adapt them to any opportunity.

1) Look around your house. Do you have any old motivational cd's lying around that you haven't played in a while? I know I sure do! Why not sell them for cash!!

2) Go to Goodwill and buy motivational books and tapes. You can get books at Goodwill for as little as 50 cents. I once bought Tony Robbins's Personal Power cd set at Goodwill for $48 (retail value of $300) and sold it on Ebay for $120. Cha ching! Side note: you can also use this strategy on Amazon.com

3) Sell public domain works. After a certain period of time, books fall out of copyright and become part of the public domain. You can resell the book over and over legally without paying a penny in royalties. Check Google for public domain resources and courses that you can buy.

4) Sell resale rights products. Many software products come with what's called resale rights. Resale rights simply means that you have the right to resell the software without paying anyone. Just buy a resale rights product related to making money online, resell it and suddenly, you have a lead who is interested in online money making opportunities, don't you?

5) Create your own product. You can write your own little booklet about making money or personal development and resell it on Ebay.

Here are some other tips:

1) Use your about me page to give out free reports to build your list.
2) Set your minimum bid really low to attract a lot of bidders. When the auction ends, then contact them and offer them a free gift related to your opportunity.

How to Choose Your Specialty Gift Baskets for a Gift Basket Business, Gift Shop, or Sideline

If you have an existing gift basket business, or are planning to start up a gift basket business or home based gift basket business or just add a sideline to a business you have now, one of the most important things to consider is the type of gift baskets you'll offer.

You can offer a wide range of gift baskets, focus on a unique specialty gift basket or do a combination of both. I recommend doing both.

For the newbie, start out with a focus on one type of gift basket, and then later add a strong line of gift baskets, after you get your foot in the door. This is often the best approach when you're new. You'll be tying up less money in inventory too.

Here are two possible specialty gift baskets to consider. The first is a gift basket for nurses. Make up a demo gift basket. I know marketing. For marketing your specialty gift basket you may have to get really creative. Take your demo to one of the local hospitals and wander though the cafeteria and set it down on a table while you have a beverage. People will assume you are delivering it to a patient.

Take plenty of business cards. Ask administration if you can post your business card on the hospital message board. Stop at the gift shop, show the demo gift basket and ask if they would take any on consignment. If they do and get enough orders, they'll probably start ordering regularly from you without consignment. If you know of any health professionals, show them your demo baskets or even give them one and ask for referrals in exchange.

Nurses don't have time to shop. They love to get and give gifts. They can't get out of the hospital for breaks or at lunchtime because it's usually against hospital policy to leave the premises. I know. I used to be a nurse. They are prime candidates for your baskets. You can have gift baskets that are full of nurse specialty and other medical items, a nurse's relaxation gift basket and so on. They like the medical theme baskets because they can use the items or give some of the items in the gift basket to other nurses and other health professionals they work with or know.

Once you get a few nurses buying you'll find they are good repeat customers. Plus they have plenty of associates they can recommend you to. Make sure you supply them with business cards. Fliers get lost or thrown away. Business cards are easier to keep track of. Business cards are cheap or you can make your own. They don't have to be fancy but make them a little appealing. Your business is going to be judged by your baskets though, not the cards.

Another idea would be to approach brew pub and tavern owners. You could provide an endless supply of gift baskets for them to use for their giveaways to customers. They usually have contests and various kinds of drawings for their customers. I know a lot of restaurant and tavern owners. I used to list and sell restaurants and taverns when I had my real estate company. I know how they think and work.

Just make up two or three or more good demos for them to choose from. Have different price ranges from less to more expensive and two or three differently filled baskets. Have two or three different types of containers if possible. Traditional wicker baskets are good. Try a totally different kind of USEABLE container if you can think of something appropriate.

For this crowd make your gift baskets humorous, not serious. Include things you think brewpub or tavern patrons might like. Specialty cheeses, crackers, pretzels, chips, nuts, other food items. Unfortunately they probably don't want healthy snacks. Maybe specialty beers, specialty coffees, hot chocolate mixes, t-shirts, baseball caps, coffee mugs, corkscrews, bar items, playing cards, auto-related items and small auto safety items. These are just a few of the items to consider.

Magic shop items will make your baskets unique and lots of FUN. Make sure you get some of these in every basket. Visit your local magic shop, usually found in the larger cities. If you don't have a magic shop try to find a magic catalog. You should be able to find some on the Internet. Even retail prices are usually cheap for these items if you can't arrange wholesale. You may not be buying enough wholesale in the beginning to warrant a wholesale account. Often minimum orders may be too high to make sense.

There are dozens of other specialty baskets you can make of course. But for the other gift baskets in your gift basket business you will want to focus on gourmet food gift baskets, fruit baskets if you come from an area that has plenty of fruit all year, corporate gift baskets which are real money-makers, but competitive, and bath and body gift baskets. Custom or personalized gift baskets are another option too.

With these tips, ideas and suggestions, you should be well on your way to choosing a specialty gift basket line for your new, existing, or work-at-home or home based gift basket business, gift shop or as a sideline to another business.

You Gotta Work That Niche!

When you find a niche that makes money, you need to work it to maximise your returns, and leverage your knowledge and expertise. The single biggest way to leverage yourself in business is this one: "Work your niche".

What the hell does that mean?

Well, 77 people were at a recent seminar I attended, all in non-competing niche markets, each with the potential of a hundred million pounds apiece. That's 7.7 billion pounds, or 'pre-Euros' as we should perhaps start calling them. It could have been seventy seven thousand people, and still you would not have had two in the same niche.

There is a vast array of possible niche markets - almost one for every person on the planet - each of which can be worked like a gold seam to a huge depth. I'll explain more in a moment, but first I want you to avoid making this mistake: Don't work a niche to some pathetic, shallow depth and then abandon that rich gold seam for another, unrelated niche. The trick is to find your niche; work the niche to its full depth and to concentrate your efforts only on that one rich seam.

Here is an example of such a niche. There was a guy at the seminar glorying in the name of Dr Batman. True. This man is amassing a huge personal fortune from his books, audio tapes, video tapes and seminars - all neatly packaged and well marketed. What is this outstanding new message requiring hours of tape and hundreds of thousands of words to explain? It is simply this: "Drink More Water". Yep. That's it. Nothing more complex.

Drink Water!

Dr Batman reckons we don't drink enough water and he would like us all to drink some more. He's probably right. But the clever part is that he looks to clear ten million out of this, rising to possibly 100 million if he gets his act together. And WOW, what a really original idea this is, right? I mean, you have to be a genius to figure out this one. You must need, oh, at least five university degrees to come up with an idea like this!

Dr Batman is working his niche. He is not writing a new book called 'Vitamins For Health' or recording a tape series on 'Aerobic Exercises' or even worse, writing a new book on 'Cost Reduction Techniques For The Small Business'. These would be other niche markets and Dr Batman would be diluting his efforts if he were to abandon his own gold mine and go wandering the hills in search of another. I hope you see this.

Thinks.... is there a market for....nah, surely not? Breathing air??? 'Your Body's Many Cries For Oxygen?' Well, it sounds stupid, but surely just as obvious as 'drink water' and we know our air is polluted and almost unbreathable.... Is there a Dr Robin in the house???

Now I personally wouldn't do that 'breathe air' idea. If you've been paying attention you will know why.

It's not in my niche. In fact it's way, way off to one side. I will explain my niche in a moment, but I want you to start thinking about what YOUR niche could possibly be. If you find it then you will have a golden doorway to riches which will open before you.

You are a unique person with a unique set of skills and experience. Really. This is not some 'make you feel good' stuff. No other human being has been where you have, experienced your life and gained your particular slice of wisdom. Let me tell you, if Dr Batman can make ten million out of the message 'drink water', then start getting your brain into gear to think what YOU could do. I mean, you've GOT to come up with something with more substance than that, right?

[Aside: Isn't that 'drink water' idea really neat? For example, the 'challenge' with the whole health industry is that people are queuing up to sue you because they claim your product harmed them or didn't help them. But who would sue because they drank an extra glass of water a day? Also, the product is FREE and that's a benefit for the customer. In other words, his message isn't "go out and spend a fortune on vitamin supplements". In fact Dr Batman advocates tap water, not bottled water! Also, we all kind of know we should drink more water, so it makes sense. We all want a 'miracle cure' and there's something simple and appealing to this one. A strong idea and I wish I'd thought of it first, damn his eyes!]

Each one of the 77 attendees had a niche just as interesting and just as deep.

Work That Niche, Baby!

Next example. One "go get 'em" lady of the sort who evangelise at MLM meetings had made a fortune selling a book. This was a simple paperback with the title "Everything Men Know About Women" or something similar. She had two very neat angles. She sold the book in lingerie and fashion shops - a pile of them would be on the check-out counter. This way her book was not lost amongst ten thousand other titles at a book shop. (I have always maintained that if you want to sell cameras, advertise in a golfing magazine and if you want to sell golf clubs advertise in a camera magazine, and she was applying this technique.) Women going to the check-out to pay for their clothes would see the book on the counter.

The second neat thing was the product. The title is very catchy and few women could resist picking it up to have a flick-through. On the back of the book there are the usual quotes from The Times, etc., saying things like: "This book really does expose for the first time ever the shocking truth about men's knowledge of women."

You pick up the book....open it....and... what's this? Blank pages??? Every page is blank!

"What the... Oh, I get it! Bwahahahah. 'Everything Men Know About Women!' Blank pages! Nothing! Men know nothing about women... Ahhahahahahahahahahh! What a laugh. I MUST get a copy of this for Margerie, Jane, Tracy, Sharon, Susie and...let me see.. oh yeah, Dawn's gonna LOVE this.... So... er..., that's one pair of size 18 knickers please (we guys have got to get our own back somehow! I'm going to do a book like her and call it 'The Complete Book of Non-Manipulative Women!' Sorry, did that sound bitter??? ) and, lemme see...yeah I'll take eleven copies of this great book for all my chums.."

Cost to produce such a book? Well, there's no printing on the pages, no collation....hmm... about 50c in bulk? Cost of the book? $4.95. I LOVE those mark-ups.

Of course, you couldn't possibly come up with such an original idea as this, could you? I mean this is real rocket science. She must have gone to marketing school for a decade to dream up this complex little gem! Sorry, but she was a secretary before she decided to stop playing around and make some money instead. Also, the idea is not even new. It's been around for years in the form of "The Complete Book of Italian War Heroes' and suchlike. The novelty was in the way she applied the idea and the way she marketed the book. Note the huge market - every woman on the planet. This title would have sunk without trace in the 'feminist issues and gender sociology' section of the average book shop. Another niche, worked to perfection.

This one title alone could easily make 20 million pounds. She could then expand her niche into novelty books if she wanted to, but NOT into books on drinking water, or into pre-packaged lingerie. There is almost infinite depth in her niche with this one title! Think of the world market. Think of the cost of translating a normal book into a hundred languages. Now consider the cost of translating this one...

A niche market does not necessarily mean a small market. What is the potential for Dr Batman's product? Every person on the planet is a potential customer. The niche aspect comes from the tiny sliver you decide to select from the vast array of products and services available. There are millions upon million upon millions of products and services and each one is a niche. Some people are making decorative plastic clothes pegs, others are writing machine code for telecommunications routers.

Your key to a fortune is to find a good niche market, and work it to death!

Remember, people like to talk about themselves and if you let them, they will and they will leave the event thinking how much they enjoyed talking to you and will remember you. This is also an excellent way to glean information about them and the business they have to offer.

Once you are organized and disciplined, you can be prepared to work more hours than normal. At least until you have established yourself in your business and become acclimated to the amount of work you need to do. Another tip is to finish all the hard projects at the beginning so if you get behind, the easy ones can be done quickly.

And it makes sense. After all, the retail business is built around the whole concept of good image. Restaurant, hotels, banks, malls, and many other establishments depend on the fortunately good-looking people of this world to endorse and deploy their products. Nothing surprising anymore about seeing godly flawless waiters with the most disarming smile serving you your risotto and glass of champagne. And a flower delivery is no exception of course.

Your loved one wakes up in the morning to the sound of the doorbell, and opens the door to find the most handsome flower delivery there, brought by an equally gorgeous courier. It’s a two deal in one. How sweet. It’s almost enough to make you, the sender of the flowers a little jealous and insecure and wish you sent the flowers yourself. Whether it is a natural disaster like hurricane Katrina or an unnatural catastrophe like an upwind industrial chemical explosion, what you do now to protect yourself and your family can make the difference between life and death. After you survive, rebuilding your life and business quickly becomes critical.

Please, do not for one moment think that Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) is going to be able to get to you in time, unless you have already taken these steps to rescue yourself. Tragically, even 10 days after post-Katrina rescue efforts began, there were still people starving to death in New Orleans.

It can happen anywhere (here), and it is not if, it is when it will happen. No one can predict the future, but you can take measures now so you know that you have done what you can to prepare.

Check out these Catastrophe Survival Tips for You and Your Family" at http://www.organize.com that you can use to buy yourself and your family more time. Time is the second most important factor in surviving a catastrophe. Water is number one, so our first tip is:

1) Without water you lose your ability to make clear decisions within 24 hours. Thirst kills you faster than famine. At Work: Keep a backpack at work with as much bottled water as you can carry. Plus, put in dried fruit, power bars, your daily medications or vitamins and a small first aid kit. Keep a Family Emergency Numbers List inside too. At Home: Put at least enough water in sealed containers so that your family will have one gallon per day for two weeks. I just bought shrink-wrapped cases of quart-sized plastic water bottles and stacked them under the backyard picnic table. Even if some of it is compromised you will still have other bottles intact. Swap water out every six months - put a reminder in your calendar.

2) Create a Catastrophe Kit on your property outside your house and garage (in a back corner of your yard, for instance). It is as easy as getting a plastic 55-gallon trash bin with clips on the lid to hold it shut. Or use a small plastic/metal garden 'shed' in your yard.

3) Clean out your closets and put in layered clothing AND tough shoes for each family member. You need a complete change of dry clothing that you can be warm enough in to sleep while dressed.

4) Clean out the camping gear you are not using: this is the perfect place for it. Tents, Tarps, Ponchos, Sleeping bags or Wool blankets (wool will keep you warmer even when wet), cooking gear, Lighters, Utensils, Can-openers and a pan to boil water.

5) Make a separate sealed container with food in it. Canned goods as complete meals are ideal. Dried foods will use precious water to reconstitute. Instant coffee keeps withdrawal headaches away. If you smoke, put a carton of cigarettes in to prevent withdrawal sickness. Concentrate on meals (e.g. beef stew, spaghetti) and carbohydrate foods like cereal bars and dried fruit leathers for energy.

6) If you eat a protein drink (or power bar) regularly, throw in a big container (or a 12-pack of cans/bars) and enough liquid to mix it up. This is a good concentrated food source.

7) Include another plastic sealed container with all of the basic medicines or vitamins you and your family must have. Some doctors will give you double prescriptions once if you ask. Clean out your bathroom cabinets and make sure to pack first aid remedies like ibuprofen, tylenol, aspirin, bandages, anti-bacterial ointment, etc. You can get cost-effective home emergency kits at Costco.

8) Important: a battery radio for emergency broadcasts; ideally a CB radio or Nextel-type network phone; your Family List with names, essential medical and contact information, as well as local emergency numbers. Call friends/family outside your state to leave update info. Local phone access is often turned off or destroyed during emergencies.

9) Maintain a Catastrophe mini-Kit for your car(s). Always have a blanket, food (e.g., power bars) and water in sealed containers. You can buy quality car emergency kits at Costco, too.

Create regular backups of your personal and business computer systems. I use Norton Ghost to image copy my entire drive onto an external hard drive and store it in the trunk of my car parked in my driveway. You probably won't be thinking about your business in the middle of a disaster, but when you survive you will need to rebuild your life and business as soon as possible.

It's more fun hassling re-creating your working drive than it is to go out of business. You can also do regular backups to remote sites on the web.
