How to Ensure Home Business Success: Find a Mentor

Description:

How many home-based businesses do you think fail each year? This question, though interesting is not the question we should be asking, but rather why do they fail and what can be done to ensure that the opportunity for failure is limited?

How many home-based businesses do you think fail each year? This question, though interesting is not the question we should be asking, but rather why do they fail and what can be done to ensure that the opportunity for failure is limited?

I have heard it said that small business failure is actually brought on by lack of planning. This statement is probably true, and one that should be taken to heart by every person contemplating starting a home-based business. However, what about knowing how to deal with things that you have not planned for and how about times when you need objective advice, what then? The answer lies in having a mentor.

What is a mentor and why would someone want to have a mentor? A simplistic definition of a mentor is someone who has experience in the field or area you are contemplating entering and is in a privileged position to consult with you on a variety of situations.

Mentors typically are of value in two areas:

A mentor can guide you along the correct path, and thereby help you avoid many of the pitfalls that most likely could become an issue. Many of these pitfalls could be minor, but that one big error could be the costly one.

Along with helping guide you away from danger, a mentor can also serve as an encourager when times get rough and you need a sounding board. They will most likely have encountered exactly what you are going through and will be in a unique position to help you.

Finding a mentor can be the tough part, but with a little bit of patience and time a mentor can be found. Not all mentors actually have to be in a business situation of their own. Mentors can be professionals from many occupations, or even close friends and family. The one thing to keep in mind when searching for a mentor is to ask yourself whether this person can be honest and truthful with me and do I respect their opinion enough to make this worthwhile. You cannot have a mentor just because it is the thing to do. There must be a stated purpose, a definitive period for the relationships purpose, and some ending point that you are working toward.

At then end of the day, success lies in not what you know, but who you know. If this statement is true, surround yourself with as many successful people you can find and use them as much as they are willing to help.

I hope that this article has been helpful to you and will assist you to be successful in your home business. As always, best of luck in starting your home business.

How to Save Money on Music Contracts

Description:

How much would you estimate an entertainment lawyer would charge hourly to draft music contracts for you? Would you guess $50, $150, $100 or even $200 per hour? Think again!

Content:

How much would you estimate an entertainment lawyer would charge hourly to draft music contracts for you? Would you guess $50, $150, $100 or even $200 per hour? Think again! Try $300 or more, an hour! Unless you are absolutely loaded, I am going to safely assume that you don't have that kind of cash lying around to blow on lawyer's fees. This is especially true for people just beginning in the music industry.

Lawyer's fees can easily take away from money you need for studio time, payroll, publishing, entertaining clients, advertising or any other crucial day-to-day activities that you or your company relies on to survive. Don't let this happen to you because it is not necessary. You money is better spent elsewhere.

To be honest with you, most music business contracts that you receive from your lawyer are written by their paralegals or legal secretaries. This means, you are paying them your hard earned money only to have them pass the work off to someone below them. Keep this in mind when searching for an entertainment lawyer. Don't get me wrong. It is a great idea to have a lawyer in your corner in case you need them. But you don't have to pay the unnecessary fees when you have other options.

So, do you actually want to spend roughly $2500 on recording contracts when there may be an easier way? I surely hope not! If your goal is to save money then you have come to the right place. The key to cutting these types of corners is by using music contract forms. For the money it cost to go to lunch, buy a round of drinks and spend a couple hours in the studio, you could purchase these pre-written contracts.

Now, you may wonder if there are contract forms that cover every aspect of the music business and the answer is yes. You can buy a complete set that fits all your needs. Whether it is distribution, manufacturing, royalties, copyrights or publishing, it doesn't matter, it is all there. You can ever edit each and everyone to fit your distinct needs or wants. When it is all over, if you want your lawyer to review it, you will only be billed for 20 minutes as opposed to 5 hours. That will save you an immense amount of money in the long-run and who doesn't love that?

Registered Office – your Identity Among Stars

Description:

Every company ought to have a Registered Office. What is important is to have Registered Office in a good or posh office area. Find out how to get one for your organisation.

Content:

For every business person (irrespective of the size of the business they run), it is important to understand some nitty gritties of legal aspect of business. And one such legal aspect is the Registered Office of a business.

What is a Registered Office?

A Registered Office is that address which is notified to the Companies Registry. Companies Registrar usually maintains all the records of a company. The Registered Office is a very critical address, as the business is deemed to have all the critical operations being conducted from there. As per the Companies Act 1985, this address (the address of the Registered Office) is to be quoted for all correspondence purposes, from the company and to the company.

Why is it so important?

It is important to have a Registered Office for a company. One, it gives a company a distinct identity. It is beneficial for the company, as people from different areas, concerned with the company, would know where to send mails etc. And therefore it is important to have a Registered Office.

Who can benefit from a registered office?

Often, in case of small organisations, single entrepreneurship and small partnership businesses, the Registered Office is the home or other residential address, where the main operations take place. That is absolutely OK as per legalities.

But more and more business owners wake up to the fact that, having a registered office in a residential area, or a not-so-hot-and-happening place, proves to be a disadvantage. Why? One, their customers and clients are not sure - whether they should deal with a company which operates from such a location. Second, the company does not get much attention. And therefore third, it is tough to build up brand awareness.

A lot of internet sites are providing registered offices in posh colonies and plush office areas to such organisations who operate from other not-so-popular areas. This is actually quite helpful at just a minimum annual fee.

Sales and Marketing Plan: Array you Just Need to Run Some Ads so People Will Know Who you are

Description:

If you believe that line your sales and marketing plan is headed for zero results. If you believe that line your sales and marketing plan is headed for zero results. Here’s why most ads don’t work: people don’t read ads, you have your picture in the ad and no one cares, your ad doesn’t say anything that interests your potential readers, and your ad doesn’t have a valid reason for your reader to want to connect with you. Consequently you spend a lot of money running ads that get you no results now and will continue to get you zero results as long as you run them.

Don’t include ads in your sales and marketing plan that people won’t read. People don’t read ads unless they have something they are specifically looking to buy. The problem with your ads is there isn’t anything for them to recognize as something they want to buy. Remove your picture. Remove your company logo. Remove the spiel about how great you are. Do have an attention getting headline that gets them to stop and read your message. People will read ads that get there attention and talk about the problems they’re experiencing.

Your ad has to do more than have your picture and some spiel about you and your company. If you want advertising to be an effective part of your sales and marketing plan you have to set yourself up for success not failure. That means your ad needs to be directed to a specific group of people not the public at large. When your prospect reads the headline they should already be able to identify themselves as the person this message was intended for.

A generic message in a generic publication has almost no chance of benefiting you and leading to future sales. Your ad needs to target a specific group and be in a publication read by that group. It should communicate that you understand a particular problem the members of that group have, and that you have information that will help them with that problem.

Advertising can be an effective part of your sales and marketing plan you just have to do it the right way. Doing it right means sending the right message to the right people at the right time via the right tool. When you have a clear and strong message that resonates with your readers they will reach out and connect with you.

Great Jobs For Kids

Description:

Even really young kids can make a little spending dough this day. Truly, there are many jobs out there for even the youngest kids.

Content:

Even really young kids can make a little spending dough this day. Truly, there are many jobs out there for even the youngest kids. Look at some of these ideas to beef up your piggy bank (and perhaps your resume, too!)

Yard Work

Few adults have the time or devotion to do all their yard work. Thus, these jobs are perfect for kids to pick up! Jobs such as weeding, raking, and planting can be accomplished by even very young persons of 8-12. In fact, kindergarteners could probably do some very light work! More involved yard jobs, like gutter cleaning, deck painting, and mowing can be finished by teens (and some pre-teens). These jobs are rewarding in many ways - and the feeling of accomplishment is going to make any youngster feel great.

Household Chores

Again, many families just don't have the time to work on the "little things" like clearing out closets, organizing attics, or cleaning up the basement. That's where a savvy kid can come in and snag some of these jobs! Are they dirty? You bet! Are they hard work? Sometimes! But are they money-making opportunities? Without a doubt! These jobs will give a child a healthy respect for the importance of work and just how long it can take to make a buck!

Babysitting

This has often been one of the mainstay jobs for teens and pre-teens looking for employment. Babysitting jobs are always available; but you need to be careful. Make sure you're devoted to performing these jobs to the best of your ability; otherwise, no one will be happy. Babysitting jobs can be found by simply walking around your neighborhood and asking parents if they need a little help.

Mother's (or Father's) Helper

This is kind of like "babysitting lite". These jobs involve playing with children while the adults in the house are busy but onsite. In fact, many times, the parent is working at home at a part time business. This means that he or she, though occupied, would be available if any emergencies occur. Thus, this kind of employment is perfect for the kid who is hesitant to stay alone with his or her charge but wants to learn the art of watching children.

Pet Sitting

On a similar note, pet sitting jobs are practical for the child who is reliable and loves animals. Often, people who are going on vacation actively seek out individuals to look after their pets. Again, this is probably not one of the best jobs for a very young kid, but for any child over 12, it's a reasonable option. Just be ready to do some "dirty work" - jobs like this often involve the art of "scooping" the droppings of large mammals!

Remember that jobs are always available to the person willing to do the work. Sometimes, it takes a little bit of self-advertisement to unearth what's out there, but even the youngest workers can find something to do to make a bit of spending cash. (Or, better yet, "saving" cash!)

Common Mistakes To Avoid Before Starting A Home Based Internet Business

Description:

Before starting out on an internet home based business it is important to learn from the mistakes of the others. You can get a head start by avoiding these costly mistakes.

Content:

When you start a home based business on the Internet or anywhere else for that matter there are commonplace mistakes to avoid. Here are some of these mistakes.

The first tip on what not to do when you start a home based business on the Internetis to concentrate not only on the product or service you are delivering but the business management aspects of your business as well. If, for example, you worked for someone else as a Web site designer, did a great job of designing a number of laudable sites and so decided to go out on your own and start a home based graphic design on the Internet you must know more than how to design the sites. You must know also how to choose your business name, write the content for the site or hire someone else to do it, advertise your service, set up and manage your accounting functions, perhaps even hire employees some day.

You must know how to set up your home office and how to manage the customer service and vendor contacts including payments and complaints. None of these things have anything to do with designing a great Web site but they all are crucial to starting a home based business on the Internet.

Many people make the mistake when they start a home based business on the Internet of taking on the wrong business partner either to gain additional finances or to increase and round out the firm's business expertise. Some of these business partners are friends, former colleagues or family members. Most of the time these partnerships crash and burn, bringing about the additional disadvantage of ruined personal relationships as well. Before bringing in a partner to help start a home based business on the Internet consider other financial resources and the use of consultants.

Sometimes starting a home based business on the Internet doesn't have to mean starting from scratch, and sometimes it shouldn't mean that. If you havent done your market research you may not realize that the market won't support your product. The product may not be workable, may not have a large enough market, or the market might be saturated. There are times when the best start is buying into a proven franchise or buying out someone else who has made a success and for some sound reason such as retirement or illness, wants to sell their proven and lucrative firm.

Some entrepreneurs start a home based Internet business but dream small dreams. They stop at the point where they are making a decent wage instead of aiming for the entrepreneur stars.

Many start a home based Internet business by undercutting those that are already out on the Web with similar products. While that may be a sound way to start it can't generally continue or you'll always be fighting a battle to make a living wage and may be forced to cut quality corners, or reduce advertising and marketing tactics in order to turn some sort of meager profit. One of the best ways to compete on the Web is to offer great customer service, to go beyond anonymity to warm relationships with your customers. If you start a home based business on the Internet treating your customer as if she or he is the only one that counts, you'll have repeat business and well on your way to netpreneurial success.

Entry-Level Jobs 101: 4 Must-Know Tips

Description:

For most people, aiming for a higher position at once is the key to job search success.

Content:

For most people, aiming for a higher position at once is the key to job search success. However, for some people who know that in order to succeed in the job market, they have to, literally, start from scratch. This means that people who want to grow positively in the working world; they have to learn the basics and fundamental principles of working, how it is to love the work most people do, and how to establish a good working relationship with his or her colleagues.

In order to enjoy all of these, one must submit himself or herself to an entry-level type of job. This refers to a job that requires minimal skills and expertise with no experience requirement needed.

Because of its nature, entry-level jobs are characterized by low salary, require physical work, and sometimes need field work.

Most often than not, people who are into entry-level jobs have very low hourly rates and may or may not entail insurance. This would mean that any hospital expenses caused by accidents that happened while the worker is at work may or may not be compensated by the employer, meaning there is no guarantee or whatsoever.

Whats more, most entry-level jobs are on a part-time basis. Examples of entry-level jobs are receptionist, apprenticeship, those who are working in a fast food restaurant, customer service, cashiers, etc.

Contrary to popular belief, entry-level jobs should not be ignored. What people do not realize is that entry-level jobs offer more than just low wages. These jobs are the foundation of all other positions available in the job market.

In most cases, people who start to work on higher positions right after they graduate from college are easily bored from their work. What is even worse, there is no room available for personal growth and career advancement.

Entry-level jobs are the stepping-stone to success in careers. So, for people who wish to grow and be promoted to a higher position, here are some tips that they can use:

1. Workers who are in the entry-level position should show enthusiasm, efficiency, caring, and love for his work.

2. They should master their skills and hone their craft.

3. They should be an expert on customer service.

4. They should know how to impress a customer who happens to be seeking an employee who knows optimum customer service.

These are just a few of the qualities that must be employed by an entry-level worker in order to advance to a higher position. And once he reaches the top, he knows that work is definitely something worth valuing for.

How sustainable is your current work? How secure is your future, when it comes to sustaining your current job. Will it stand the test of time? How sure are you? Where will you work in the next coming year? Will robot replace your current work? Who knows! Just read this article to find out.

Today, we live in an uncertain world. We can not predict what will happen in the next second. If you can, then you must me something else other than a living being. Today, we are constantly terrified by the uncertainty of the next moment.

As I write this article, I don’t actually know what will happen the next moment. A new inventory in technology may jeopardize my current work as a typist. As I type, I do so with fear because I don’t know weather my boss will be coming back the next moment with a robot that will type more effective, accurate and efficiently than I do. If such happens, that means that I will lose my current job as a typist.

I hope I am not the only one that is engulfed with phobia when it comes to sustaining ones current work. I thank God for giving man the ability to adapt and change. How will you feel if a robot is waiting to replace you in your current work? Do you think it is not possible? Please don’t think that it is not possible.

By the year 2050, I believe the world will be a digital village. With the pace at which electronic books is replacing paper books, I know that one day in future, the paper books will become extinct. Now, when paper books become extinct, what do you think will be the faith of book publishers? By the year 2050, news papers and magazines will be read on an electronic device which may invade the world in the next few seconds. When this happens, what will the newspaper vendors do to sustain life? A big question for us to answer.

How prepared are you for such an eventuality that will make you unemployed. Think and act now before such eventuality befalls you.

Few days ago, I was discussing with a medical student, who I asked what he will do if sickness becomes a history in the few years to come. He was horrified at such question? He declared me an enemy with out waste of time.

Just think of how sustainable your present Job will be in the next moment. Any thing can happen at any time. Have a nice moment as you give it a second taught.

Let's analyze some things to look for when shopping for an offshore jurisdiction.
Bank Secrecy Without this we are not interested. We want the bank to not be able to divulge any information about the bank account including whether or not such a bank account even exists unless there is an order from a competent court in the country where the bank is located. More secrecy than this does not exist any place today. Numbered accounts are gone. Sparbuch accounts in Austria are all gone, yes I know people offer them for sale on websites but they are all long gone and closed down. The bank secrecy laws must be written into the law of the land in question. Belize has no such bank secrecy laws written in their laws, people just seem to trust them even though there would be no legal penalty for them to reveal bank information if they see fit to do so. We want bank secrecy laws to call for prison and civil penalties for any violations in addition to allow for one to bring suit against the bank for violations. Panama meets this test.

MLAT Mutual Legal Assistance treaty. Many nations have entered into these agreements. For a list of countries that have entered into these agreements with the USA courtesy of the US Government click here:

http://travel.state.gov/law/info/judicial/judicial_690.html

It is shocking as to how many countries are in such agreements. Even Panama is in such an agreement but it is fairly limited in scope, see below:

Essentially Panama will cooperate in a multi-national case involving narcotics and money laundering (these crimes need to be tied to narcotics). They also will get involved in cases concerning child pornography and real terrorism. If you are not a narcotics dealer and are not a money launderer (money launders are typically dealing with many millions of dollars), not a child pornographer, and not a terrorist you should not be concerned by this. The MLAT requires that there first need to a criminal prosecution case on file in the criminal courts of the requesting government (which means no fishing expeditions) then through diplomatic channels involving the embassies, requests are made for information, then reviewed by Panama officials and a decision on compliance is made or requests for more information are made so a determination can be arrived at. These cases can take months and even years for completion. At times the country where the bank is located has been known to once alerted to the problem, conduct their own investigation first and this usually requires them to seize the relevant records and documents which can stall the process for a long time even years since their justice systems typically moves quite slow and statues of limitation can run out, please don't construe this to mean Panama does this routinely it is just something that does occur from time to time around the world. The MLAT has no application to civil cases such as divorce, bankruptcy, civil judgments, business litigation, any sort of civil litigation, civil tax matters etc. Taxation matters of any sort are not covered by this as far as Panama is concerned. Income tax evasion is a civil (non-criminal) offense in Panama. Switzerland cooperates on income tax cases if the return is filed falsely like all income was not declared, things were omitted or so the complaining government says. Panama has no extradition treaties. Panama passes this test.

Tax Treaties Many so called Offshore Jurisdictions are in Tax Treaties. For a list of countries with tax treaties with the USA click here. Panama has NO tax treaty with any country. Even Switzerland and Belize are in tax treaties as are most of the so called offshore jurisdictions. Click here to see a list of countries in tax treaties complete with links enabling you to read the actual treaties, a real eye opener click here:

http://panamalaw.org/countries_with_tax_treaties.html

Type of Bank License Many of these offshore banks have offshore banking licenses versus regular banking licenses. Let me explain. These island jurisdictions usually have different classes of bank licenses one class allows the bank to do business with only residents of the country, the other class usually encountered is the offshore license that allows the bank to ONLY conduct business with non-residents of the country, and they usually have a third class of license that allows the bank to do business with both residents and non-residents. It is a natural conclusion that a bank with an offshore only license is a risky proposition at best since the government won't let them do business with the citizens of their country. The banks we use in Panama are open to the citizens of Panama and are never offshore only banks. Most of the bank accounts being offered by various web site businesses are with bank having only an offshore license.

Corporation Privacy This is an important point. I see many websites selling offshore corporations from dozens of countries. The only kind of corporation worth anything when it comes to privacy is a bearer share corporation. By this what is meant is the ownership of the corporation rests with the person who has the physical stock certificates of the corporation. Ownership need not be reported or recorded anywhere. A sale of the corporation does not need to be reported. This is what is called a non-transparent corporation and is extremely disliked by many governments who think people have no rights to privacy. In Panama a S.A. Corporation or bearer share company has no ownership reporting or recording requirements. One merely hires professional directors (which we provide) who appear as directors on hundreds of corporations and that is that. Directors are made public but you need not be your own director, we provide professional nominee directors complete with resignation letters and general power of attorney letter. Corporation privacy is especially important since governments have taken to monitoring bank wire transfers including recently the Swift System scandal showing the USA was monitoring Swift Transfers and we do not know to what extent and for exactly how long but is best to assume the worst. If one uses an anonymous bearer share Panama Corporation there is lack of transparency in that no one knows the ownership behind the corporation, they only know the corporation received or sent a wire and the other side of the transaction. This serves to preserve your privacy to a large extent. Imagine how silly it is to use an offshore corporation where ownership is made public and can be computerized thus one could tell in seconds who is the person behind the corporation receiving or sending the funds. This is what is being sold all over the internet as an offshore corporation misleading the people into thinking their privacy is being protected. Once again Panama passes the test.

Taxation Free The offshore jurisdiction must be taxation free in that offshore derived income is not taxed by the country where the corporation is domiciled. Panama meets this test as does numerous other countries. Panama also has no capital gains tax for you stock market investors and there is no inheritance or probate tax. Panama passes this test.

Weather Considerations Many of these offshore jurisdictions are located on islands and are subject to power outages from hurricanes. Also one must look for risk from volcanoes, tsunamis and earthquakes. Just what you don't need is a power outage from a storm preventing you from getting your money out when you need it. The reason the Panama Canal was built where it is, is because there is no risk from hurricanes, tsunamis, volcanoes and earthquakes. Panama passes the test.

Infrastructure One must look at the power generators, telephone system and internet when evaluating an offshore jurisdiction. You don't want to have to wait days or weeks to be able to use your online banking or to be able to talk to your bank on the phone. Panama was basically built by the Americans who just left it in 2000. It has American style phones, electricity, roads, etc. The cells phones and internet in Panama are as good as Canada or USA. Panama passes the test again.

Government Stability The last thing you need is to be banking in some tax haven offshore jurisdiction and find out a revolution has taken place and you can kiss your money goodbye. Another possibility is like what happened in Grenada when there was rampant bank fraud causing the closure and liquidation of the offshore banks with people losing their savings. Panama is a stable democracy. Panama is a UN neutral country so a war is most unlikely. Panama is in a treaty with the USA concerning the Panama Canal which was given to them by the USA in 2000. If the canal is threatened the USA has the right to step in to protect the Panama Canal. This means that if there was a revolution (unlikely occurrence since Panama is a most stable democracy) the USA would have fighter jets there within an hour or two and by the next day one could expect to see a navy aircraft carrier group in Panama Bay with an expeditionary force of marines. Next would be an airlift, paratroopers, helicopters, nuclear submarines and you have the idea. Forget about an invasion, attack or revolution in Panama, it passes the test.

Currency Panama uses the US dollar as its currency. The banks are on the US dollar and the ATM machines dispense US dollars, they even use US coins. This means a stable currency. I know some of you will say they like the Euro better fine but when I say stable compare it to the Bahamian Dollar or Grand Cayman Dollar. No currency conversion costs in Panama if you use dollars. Panama again passes the test.

EU Ties Panama has no ties that could erode privacy again passing the test. No reportage of income for EU residents or collecting of withholding taxes. Tax identity numbers from your home country are not required to open a Panama bank account, own a corporation, buy real estate etc. Panama again passes the test.

What Every Prep Chef Should Know About Cutlery

Description:

Ah, the prep chef, happily whacking away with a steady rhythm. You have no worries about how the Hollandaise sauce is going to turn out, nor how fussy those customers at table seven are. All you have to worry about is making food the right consistency before passing it off to someone else. You can go through the day in an almost Zen-like calm, just tending to the little stuff.

The best restaurants will either let you pick your utensils, or have a good selection already handed down from previous prep chefs. If you're picking out your own, you may be tempted to call that 1-800 number and just get a set of everything (with the bonus turnip twaddler) and be done with it, or you might take your career seriously enough to spend some time seriously picking your tools. Good kitchen knives are never cheap, but they are a career-long investment. Buy wisely and your staff will be using them 50 years from now - to celebrate your restaurant's golden anniversary, of course!

The best-quality knife will be made of either stainless steel or a high-carbon steel and have a sturdy handle. The handle is preferably made of poly-carbonate or nylon instead of wood. Make sure that you get a plain edge, because those wonders that "never need sharpening" just do not work.

It is also recommended that you pass on the complete sets sold by the major knife makers; they usually contain at least one knife you will never use. Instead, buy knives one at a time or in small sets and get the best quality you can afford. Some brand names chefs swear by (and this is an unpaid endorsement!) are Wusthof-Trident, Henkles, Sabatier and Friedrick Dick.

The three knives that you will find essential in every kitchen are a 3-to-4-inch paring knife, an 8-inch chef's knife and a 7-to-10-inch slicer.

The paring knife is definitely one of the most overlooked tools in the kitchen. It not only gets the peeling done, but it also can do a lot of the slicing and dicing usually reserved for the more frequently used chef's knife. For some reason, every time I watch another chef, they reach for a knife that's longer than they need.

A good chef's knife will take care of most of your dicing and chopping magic. It is indispensable if you need to prepare fresh garlic. Just lay the flat of the blade on top of the clove and hit it with your hand, which will smash the clove and split the skin, making removal of the garlic flesh a breeze. An 8-inch blade works best, unless you are very small or very large. Then a 6-inch or a 10-inch knife may be in order, to account for the size of your fist.

Look for a chef's knife which is balanced well with a blade that is wide and rather heavy at the butt, near the handle. A slight curve on the blade's edge will give you a good rocking action while chopping and make the knife much easier to use.

The slicer is used mainly for carving and slicing meat. It's also good for mincing spices, since you can just pitch that handful of chives onto the cutting board and rock the big knife with the curved blade back and forth over it, with both hands on top.

These three knives are good building blocks, but they're just the start. Next, you want to add a bread knife, a bird's-beak parer for peeling and coring round fruits, a second paring knife, and a 6-inch sandwich and utility knife.

To care for your knives, you should wipe them clean with a damp sponge, dry them off with a dish towel, and store them in a knife block, with the blade always down. Never hand them to the dish washer, because the knives will bang against other silverware and get damaged. When using any knife, make sure that the blade lands on a relatively soft surface, such as wood or plastic, rather than on a surface such as the metal surface or ceramic. This is because constant striking on a hard surface will dull the blade rapidly.

Knives should be washed by hand and dried immediately after each use. Because wood tends to swell, it is not a good idea to immerse knives with wooden handles in water for a prolonged period of time. Rubbing mineral oil on the knife's wood handle periodically will maintain their luster. Stains on blades may be cleaned with a mild scouring powder, or with a mildly abrasive pad - never steel wool!

Acidic foods like lemon juice, vinegar, or mustard, should not remain on the blade after use as they will cause discoloration. Your knives should always be cleaned as soon as any job is completed. Knives should be stored in a drawer or in a knife block once they have been cleaned and dried. They should not be stacked, for purposes of both safety and proper edge care.

Remember your safe food handling! To avoid cross-contamination of bacteria, knives should be cleaned before they are used for another product. Most especially they should be kept to separate uses of meat and vegetables for one meal, and never use the same knife for both raw and cooked meat.

“14 Power Tax Tools for your Internet Business”

Description:

Numerous tax saving strategies are available. This article provides a sample of the hundreds of business deductions available that can slash your taxes.

Content:

Know thy tax codes! Tax codes can save you thousands of dollars if you use them properly. Following are codes and tax deductions that you can take immediately. (You can do these things even if your business is new.)

Power Tax Tool #1: Section 280: Home Office deduction and related expenses. Your CPA will say that these put up a red flag with the IRS, but that is not true. If you do it properly, it is legal.

Power Tax Tool #2: Section 274: Food, office equipment.

Power Tax Tool #3: Section 132: Deduct your corporate gym.

Power Tax Tool #4: Section 105 and 106: Deduction of health care costs. Chiropractic, eye care, laser surgery. 100% tax deductible.

Power Tax Tool #5: Section 162: Seminars and achievement awards. You can write off the entire cost of seminar: hotel, transportation, and products you invest in. Your company can give up to two achievement awards each year worth $1,600 a piece. You can give the achievement award to yourself since you are the sole person in your business.

Power Tax Tool #6: Section 274: Season tickets and club memberships can be written off 100% if you do it correctly. Have to do these correctly because if you don’t the penalties and interest can be more than the tax was to begin with.

Power Tax Tool #7: Section 119: Meals and lodging: Can write off 100% while traveling for business.

Corporate meetings and vacations. You’re in a business so you don’t go on “vacation”. However, the IRS requires that you have an annual meeting. So take the annual meeting in a vacation spot and pay for the entire meeting (vacation) through your business.

Power Tax Tool #8: Kids can be put on the payroll and can be paid up to $6,500 per kid per year. You can opt to put this money in an education IRA.

Power Tax Tool #9: Section 129: Nanny and nurses. You can write off $5,250.

Power Tax Tool #10: Section 127: Scholarships. You can also pay for private school with pretax dollars. You can write these costs off through your business.

Power Tax Tool #11: 217: Executive move. Storage, packing, moving can be written off as business expenses.

Power Tax Tool #12: Fringe benefit programs.

Power Tax Tool #13: If you buy new equipment that is 60,000 pounds or more, you can write off the whole cost THIS year. (Note: The tax code changes yearly.)

Power Tax Tool #14: Retirement plans: Roth, Sep, IRA, and IRA business system. IRA business system is when you can self direct your retirement fund. You gain check book control over the money in your retirement system. This means that you can access money in your retirement account for things such as real estate transactions and other business ventures.

These are just 14 deductions out of a possible 300 deductions.

Pros and Cons of Construction Laborer Career

Description:

Construction laborers are employed for physically challenging and dangerous work.

Content:

Construction laborers are employed for physically challenging and dangerous work. The construction of buildings and highways, excavation for tunnels and shafts, hazardous waste removal and demolition work, all require the services of construction laborers. The term laborer generally implies a task that requires no training or special skill. But, there are many areas of construction that demand the employment of laborers with a considerable amount of expertise and skill. These skills may be acquired on the job or through formal training programs.

At a construction site, the work includes cleaning the site to remove asbestos, lead and other hazardous waste. They dig trenches and lay braces on the sides to provide support. They lay sewer pipelines, storm drain pipes and pipes for water supply. They load and unload heavy building material. At highway construction sites, they prepare the work areas and the right of way. They install markers, cones and traffic barricades. Their duty includes controlling of traffic, around the work site too.

The duties assigned to laborers, requires some of them to operate different machines. The machines may include concrete mixers, plaster mixers, mechanical hoists, pavement breakers, jack hammers, earth tampers and electric and hydraulic boring machines. Nowadays, there is greater sophistication in the construction machinery used. The laborers may be required to handle hi-tech equipment, such as laser-beam equipment and the computerized controls of robotic pipe cutters and cleaners. They are also required to read and interpret plans and designs with little or no help. At times, they may be required to work as part of a team, the team comprising of skilled craftsmen.

Some construction laborers may specialize in highway construction or tunnel work, while some may be demolition specialists. In the normal course of their duties, construction laborers have to kneel, bend, crouch and climb to dangerous heights. There is no protection for them from the climatic conditions. Depending on the place of their work, they may be exposed to hazardous fumes, chemicals, odors and exceptionally loud sound.

Whenever the nature of work demands, construction workers are expected to wear protective clothing and special headgear. They need to use masks, goggles, gloves and boots to protect themselves.

Most of the construction laborers learn their skills on the job and take many years to become proficient. They have to start by helping skilled laborers and then gradually learn the skills, to enable them to function independently.

The formal apprentice program for construction laborers takes two to four years to complete. These programs are run according to the guidelines set by the Laborers- Associated General Contractors of America Education and the Training Fund. There are four thousand hours of supervised training and four hundred hours of classroom training that provide exposure to blue print reading, correct use of tools and equipment and health and safety measures.

A career as a construction laborer demands a robust physique and a readiness to tackle the challenging tasks assigned. Skills in the use and operation of special machines used in construction jobs, is also a prerequisite.

How to Avoid Network Marketing Scams

Content:

A lot of people have been complaining that network-marketing companies have had them. It is actually a sad truth that there are many network marketing scams circulating in the Internet nowadays that if you are not really careful, you could really get into trouble with those people who are preying on the innocent and the gullible. If you are planning to get into online network marketing, you should first make sure that you do some research before you join in any of those online networking companies.

Avoiding network marketing scams would require a look of vigilance from you. To help you avoid those network marketing scams, you should always make it a point to investigate the status of the company. First, you should make sure that the networking company have a physical address where you can easily find them if you have some concerns. Do not rely on those companies that only give out their online address and telephone number.

Since you will be dealing with products and services, you should know that the company will be able to answer all your questions either via the phone or online. When looking for a legitimate network marketing company, make sure that they have a customer service, preferably a 24 hour toll free hotline which you can reach anytime. Note that if a company is really as big as it claims, it can easily afford to have a toll free number where its clients and distributors will be able to reach them.

Another thing that you should look for in a company to help you assess it reliability is the number of years that the company have been in existence. The good thing about those companies that have been there for many years is that they have already established a system that could best serve the interest of their clients. Another thing is that if the company have been there for many years, it is highly possible that it is reliable or else it would not really last that long. Note that companies that have not been around for very long do not really have any tack records to show how reliable they are so it is better for you to deal with companies that could prove that they can deliver what they claim that they can deliver.

Avoiding marketing scams could be challenging at times. There are some companies that may appear to be legitimate at first but in the end, it will fold up and your money will be wasted. If ever you will encounter such problems, never give up. Just because networking marketing company was not able to deliver what it had promised to deliver to you, that don't mean that all other companies would do the same thing.

The Amazing Secret Cold Cover Letter

In sales, when people talk about cold calling, they are actually trying to get hold of a potential client that has not yet decided for such interaction. The client is not aware of such calls or has not purposely requested the salesperson to call him or her, hence, the term "cold."

Similarly, cold cover letters can provide you the opportunity of contacting a hiring manager and inquire for any possibilities of employment in their company. In most cases, there had been no apparent announcements or advertisements regarding the position applicants wish to apply.

With cold cover letters, job applicants are trying to spontaneously get hold of a job offer that has not been specifically declared. That is why cold cover letters are sometimes known as unsolicited cover letters.

In reality, people may see that using cold cover letters is just a waste of time. Most people think that the possibilities of getting a job is almost zero whenever applicants have to opt for cold cover letters.

What these people do not know is that companies will always be hiring people. People come and go and there are times that the resignation becomes so abrupt that the process of hiring another person will take time to get published and be known to the public.

However, if people will use cold cover letters, they might be tapping on a hidden job application that is yet to be disclosed. For instance, an employee just resigned from his position today and at the same time, a resume with a cold cover letter attached to it has just arrived. Perfect timing as you may call it, but this can really happen.

In the end, employers may even consider such applications and may no longer need to advertise the position if the applicant is already appropriate for the job. This would mean less competition and greater chances of getting hired.

Cold cover letters vs. Regular cover letters

There are some small discrepancies between cold cover letters and the regular cover letters. Although they both have the same goal, which is to land an interview and eventually get a job offer, the construction of cold cover letters is slightly different from the regular cover letters.

Here's why:

1. More interesting

Cold cover letters should be more interesting. If regular cover letters should be made in such a way that it attracts a potential employer, cold cover letters should be able to keep the reader on the hook. This means that the cover letter should contain more weight and should create an impression that the possibility of hiring a particular applicant for the job could be an advantage.

It is best to state the value of the person's application. Keep in mind that there are no specific jobs advertised, hence, coming up with ideas that will tell the potential employer that you could be the right person for some jobs for the organization could just be your ticket to success.

The thing is, there might not be some existing need for such positions but the problem is already there. And so, when the employer sees you as a potential solution to the problem, he might just consider you for a possible position.

2. Request for interview

Even though regular cover letters also aim in getting an interview, cold cover letters should have a strong need for such appointment. It is best if you could emphasize on discussing the matters with your potential employer.

Boiled down, cold cover letters should have greater attention-grabbing power. The ability to attract a potential employer to read your cover letter is one thing, but keeping the employer on the hook and continues to read the cover letter even if there are no available positions yet is the ultimate value of cold cover letters.

Training Departments Please Oil the Sales Engine

Description:

A mini case study on how a major company is trying to be a better training partner with the sales force.

Content:

Clayton Shold

The challenge - how can a training department in a large U.S. insurer be a better partner to maximize sales?

Could these statements be coming from your organization?

“The training department has lost much of its focus in being a key partner to the Field.”

“We have become reactive, more administrative and thus less effective in helping Field Management accomplish their goals.”

I recently reviewed a proposal that was in its final stages before presentation to senior management. The report outlined a restructure and expansion of the learning department. The person leading the change wanted a set of outside eyes to read through it, what was missing, what might be unclear?

As you would expect, they had given much thought to the required re-engineering within their area. Equally as important, the author of the report looked at the critical interdependencies with other areas of the organization, including recruiting and selection and compensation alignment.

I liked the length they had gone to in obtaining input from field sales management and producers. They realized what ever path they went down, they had to put their client needs first and then integrate learning and development strategies as partners, not as head office experts.

I liked their recognition and emphasis on the necessity of coaching in the field, and the important role field management needed to play, especially with behavioural learning.

I liked that they understood the importance of identifying desired performance outcomes of all field positions so they could create appropriate learning programs.

What was missing in the report was any anticipated response to senior management asking, “How will we measure our return on the increased investment in this area?” Sure there was a budget, but there was no projected return. The working team focused so much on the detail they lost site of the big picture. If we do all of this, what happens?

This is the age old challenge, quantifying the learning investment is easy, tallying the return is much more difficult. Given the tight time line they were working to, my suggestion was to not dwell on precise dollar amounts but focus on the resulting benefits. Before doing so, I challenged them to have a hard look at the possibility of restructuring with no increase in complement, in fact could they reduce resources? A leaner and more productive learning group sends a loud message. It also allows the presentation to focus on the benefits of the proposed changes without the distraction of debate over need for increased complement. The key benefits identified were;

Integration and alignment of head office and field mindset specific to performance outcomes – less duplication, time savings, faster implementation.

Identify and leverage best practices, in the field and with external organizations – cost savings, productivity improvement, opportunity for recognition of internal excellence.

Assess best fit for e-Learning solutions – not all development is suited for this medium – economic savings, ease of access, consistency.

Recognize personal ownership for development – mindset of individual accountability is priceless.

The learning function of this company gets full marks for recognized the need for change. They understand the impact their department can have by becoming a true partner with the field. Once the learning team understands its role in helping the sales force fuel the revenue engine, field leadership will be asking for more. Keep your clients satisfied and life is great!
